This exhibition tells the remarkable story of Mabel Stobart, a Dorset woman who led a women-only medical team to Serbia between April and December 1915.

Volunteers and museum staff worked together to research Mabel and her Serbian medical corps who cared for wounded soldiers in extraordinary circumstances.

People learned more about the heritage of the role of women from Dorset during the First World War, through attending the exhibition and other supporting events. They developed skills through volunteering, including carrying out research, curating the exhibition and organising activities.

The museum’s collection was better interpreted and explained by the exhibition and included numerous fascinating photographs from the Stobart collection.
