Our £780,800 grant will help restore a famous main-line steam locomotive based on the Keighley and the Worth Valley Railway.

45596 Bahamas was used originally by the London Midland and Scottish Railway between 1934 and 1948 and then by nationalised British Railways until 1966. It ran more than 1.4million miles, taking passengers and freight across the northern countryside.

Bought for preservation in 1967, the future of this 1934 Jubilee class 45596 Bahamas is now assured and its dedicated volunteers hope the engine will drive further tourism to Yorkshire.

Bahamas is due to be operational again by early 2017. In the process, it will provide employment, training and skill development for contractors and volunteers around the country, including at its Ingrow base near Keighley.
