Two museums in North Wales are celebrating this week, having secured over £1.1million from the National Lottery to redevelop their facilities and make them better places to visit.

Llandudno Museum and Penmaenmawr Museum will use the funding raised through National Lottery ticket sales to strengthen their current displays as well as developing new activities for visitors to see and do.

The money will mean more objects can go on display and the museums can welcome a wider range of people through sensory displays, sign language and walking tours.

It will also help to improve existing facilities such as shops selling locally sourced produce, café and self-service coffee, and family and community areas.

Can the National Lottery help you showcase North Wales’s rich history?

Catrin Jones, North Wales Development Officer at HLF, wants to encourage those who are thinking of applying for National Lottery funding for heritage projects in North Wales to get in touch.

“Museums are fundamental to our understanding of the past, and thanks to National Lottery players we are able to support local projects like these – both run entirely by volunteers - which are huge assets to their community.

“A few years ago we identified Conwy as a county where we wanted to attract more applications and it’s great to see that targeted work coming to fruition. This investment will be a fantastic boost for Conwy and the surrounding area, where tourism is such a key part of the economy.

“If you have an idea about how to bring heritage to life in North Wales, National Lottery funding could just help make it a reality. I would love to hear from you and am happy to discuss your ideas – please contact me on Catrin.Jones@hlf.org.uk.”
