1st Menai Bridge Scout Group are running a two-year project in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the closure of several local scout groups as their leaders and many scouts went to fight in the First World War.

The project is being run by young people enrolled in local scout and cub groups, in partnership with Menai Heritage Centre. It is focusing primarily on the roles of the scouts and leaders during this time in the community and at war.

Young people are receiving training in video recording and how to record oral history. Menai Heritage Centre will also train the young people in the best practice of collection, copying and curation of items and records. Research is being carried out on former scouts and cubs up until 1939 and survivors will be interviewed so that their memories and experiences can be preserved.

Permanent photographic displays are being installed in the Menai Bridge and other public libraries, Heritage Centres and Scout halls. The findings will also be added to the Anglesey Archives, Scout Association Archives and People's Collection Wales, making the findings of the project easily accessible after it concludes.
