Montgomery Town Council restored an existing First World War memorial, created a small memorial garden and researched the names of those fallen in the war, gathering stories to create a leaflet and exhibition.
The project involved over 50 people, with some undertaking physical work on the memorial garden and some involved in the research of the names and backgrounds of the fallen. Oral histories were gathered, along with archive resources and photographs. Local schoolchildren visited the Imperial War Museum in Manchester and worked alongside researchers to investigate the names of the fallen. The information was displayed in the local museum for two weeks, with an attendance of over 400.
The existing memorial was extensively refurbished and now includes a plaque listing the names of the fallen. The area also includes a small floral garden to be maintained by the school children and local youth groups such as the Scouts.
