Loughgall Estate has been in the ownership of the Department of Agriculture since the 1950s and has been used as a centre of horticultural research.

The project focused on repairing historic garden features, including two ice houses built between 1835 and 1860. Plans also included improving the heritage trail, which runs through the estate.

Visitors can now walk along the new lakeside path and access the lake via new timber jetties without damaging the habitats. This site’s long and interesting history, including its recent use of horticultural research, will also now be accessible to visitors through information boards and guidebooks.
