A Grade I listed chapel in Morriston is being developed into a Community Resilience Hub, offering inclusive, accessible opportunities to support local people.

Built in 1872 and affectionately known as the Chapel of Non-Conformity, Tabernacle is one of only three remaining Grade I listed buildings in Swansea. For generations, it has stood as a proud symbol of cultural identity and spiritual heritage.

Our support is saving Tabernacle from closure and helping it continue to inspire and serve generations to come as a Community Resilience Hub. Led by Tabernacle Morriston Community Heritage Trust, in partnership with Tabernacle Morriston Congregation and Swansea Council, the project is securing the building’s future and preserving its legacy.

Thanks to National Lottery players, the project is:

  • carrying out vital repairs to the building
  • improving accessibility through installing new lift access and upgrading bathroom facilities
  • offering a range of cultural and educational programmes, including Welsh language events, activities for neurodiverse groups and bilingual heritage
  • providing new volunteering opportunities

Tabernacle also remains a vibrant cultural home for the local community including choirs, Morriston Welsh Society, Twrw Tawe and local schools.

Swansea Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: "We're delighted to be playing a key role in bringing vibrant new life to the Tabernacle for the benefit of local communities and future generations. The fantastic support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund is much appreciated."
