Looking to the future, the Museum of Enfield is investing in a digital collections database and recruiting volunteers to understand and open up access to local heritage.

The Museum of Enfield's collections include mammoth bones found in Brimsdown, a Roman lead coffin and a range of 20th-century domestic items including valves from Enfield’s industrial years. The new online cataloguing system will focus on 20,000 objects that tell the stories of the people and places of Enfield, an Area of Focus for the Heritage Fund.

Previously these items have been catalogued with simple index cards so this new system will be revolutionary for the museum. The project will be working with volunteers from the local community who will learn new skills in archiving and cataloguing. Lunchtime talks, museum lates and new exhibitions will be taking place, aiming to connect the local community with the Museum’s collection in a new way.

This project received funding through our Dynamic Collections campaign.
