How will you remember your community’s diverse heritage?

On 10 July we will be partnering with CVS Rochdale to hold our sixth and final event aimed at not-for-profit organisations across the region who want to celebrate and explore Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME), refugee or migrant heritage.
Do you have a story to share or pass on? Is there heritage you feel others would benefit from learning about? Perhaps you are wondering how to build a strong project or need guidance on what HLF programme might be best for you? The team will be on hand to give lots of advice and insight into projects to inspire you.

Blog campaign
Over the past year our BAME heritage campaign has also featured a series of blogs by individuals reflecting on their experience of applying to HLF and sharing stories of the heritage they explored. These have proven invaluable for potential applicants eager to find out more from those who have secured funding and run successful projects.
Our final blog in the series is written by Nusrat Ahmed, Project Coordinator at Community on Solid Ground, who explores the highs and lows of running her intergenerational project, Traditional Best Times of South Asian Women. Since that project started, she has also been awarded funding for another, the Big Fat Asian Wedding project, which aims to explore the rich heritage of South Asian wedding traditions and is due to start next month. Keep an eye on our website over the coming week to find out more.
Support for applicants
HLF recently awarded initial support to Coming in from the Cold: Raising the profile of BME communities. The project aims to expand support to BAME-led projects and increase diversity in the Greater Manchester archives.
