She has expansive theoretical and practical experience in anti-discrimination, anti-racist, decolonial and social justice related work.
She worked for the Black Environment Network (BEN) promoting natural, built and historic heritage as an area of enjoyment, education and employment for racially under-represented intersectional communities. She has provided training to well-known heritage and environmental organisations to help them become more representative and inclusive in their work practices. She has also worked for a Race Equality Council in Wales and a number of major public bodies across the UK as their national diversity and inclusion lead, advising and supporting the delivery of their Strategic Equality Plan.
Shaheen is interested in UK Black history and amplifying the hidden Black Welsh stories. She is a published writer and contributed an essay in Welsh (Plural) Essays on the Future of Wales, as well as pieces to acknowledge landmark events in Welsh history: the 180th Chartist Anniversary and the Black Chartist: William Cuffay, and the 1919 Race Riots in Newport and Cardiff.
She studied at the University of Glasgow and Coleg Harlech in Wales.
