Staff profile: Meghan Hamer, HR Administrator

A young white woman with long red-blonde hair wearing a white top and black jacket standing in an urban area.
Meghan started at the Heritage Fund on a fixed-term contract, stayed on as an apprentice and was then promoted to HR Administrator. She’s worked here for four years and is based in the Leeds office.

What does your role involve?

It’s varied and exciting: I help manage employee data changes and support with generalist HR queries. I also support managers with recruitment, from adding vacancies to our website and booking in interviews to supporting with onboarding of new starters to the Heritage Fund. As it’s a small team I’m exposed to a lot of different projects – which is great for me as I love learning new things, and really supports my professional development.

What do you enjoy about working here?

Simply, the people. The environment and the culture we work in is so supportive. I feel valued and appreciated, and everyone is always willing to help each other.

What motivates you at work?

In the HR and People function we really get to see first-hand the effects of the work we do – from seeing colleagues progress in their careers and celebrating milestones with them, to providing administrative support and working with different teams and trade unions. I take great pride in the work that I do, and being able to support my colleagues really motivates me.

What’s the highlight of your time at the Heritage Fund?

Passing my Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Level 3 qualification as part of my apprenticeship. I had so much support from the team during this time and was so happy when I completed it. Thanks to our external learning and development support for Heritage Fund employees, I’ve also been fortunate to start my Level 5 qualification this year.

What’s your favourite heritage place?

I love the Piece Hall in Halifax (which we funded). It’s a multi-purpose venue that I have seen transform over the years. It now has lots of bars, restaurants and shops, while remaining true to its original character. The Piece Hall is also a great venue for live music. It’s been lovely to see the benefit the town has had from this regeneration too.
