"You could empathise with the characters, it felt much more human. It had a much bigger impact than anything you could learn by the desk."

Young drama enthusiasts formed the Eden Court Collective, a theatre company that set out to explore and share the untold stories of warfare.

Eight members of Eden Court youth theatres formed the collective to explore local and family wartime stories, with particular focus on the First World War. The team was supported by The Highlanders’ Museum at Fort George and Eden Court theatre.

The group discovered forgotten stories with the help of local archives and researchers. The stories formed part of an exhibition at Fort George and the material is available at the Highlanders’ Museum.

The project concluded with a performance of A Century Untold, based on letters sent during the First and Second World Wars. The team worked with The Highlanders’ Museum’s marketing department to promote the event, including the creation of a taster film.

The final production took place at Fort George, incorporating film clips and music. It was watched by an audience of over 250. Many of the performers portrayed their own family members.

Young people worked with a digital professional to record the performance and make a documentary film.
