St Michael's Church Sutton Court, Chiswick
£10000
Heroes of Chiswick aims to discover more about the lives of 23 men from the Parish of St. Michael (Sutton Court) who were killed on active service in France, Belgium, Gallipoli and elsewhere.

The deaths of these men are currently commemorated in a memorial in the church through several stained glass windows – but otherwise very little is known about them. The project seeks to address this gap in knowledge and will involve local people, including children and young people, in its activities.

Project participants will research a number of sources, including:

  • newspapers and hospital records from Chiswick Library
  • church registers and parish magazines from the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA)
  • documents detailing military careers from the Imperial War Museum (IWM) and specific regimental museums

They will also gather additional information on family histories from the local community.

An exhibition of the findings will be displayed in the church during its summer festival and will go on tour to local schools, the library and other public places.
