Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape is home to internationally important habitats. It’s one of the smallest National Landscapes, covering 75 square km across the borders of Cumbria and Lancashire.
The landscape is one of few to have limestone pavement and contains tidal habitats of Morecambe Bay. However, the area is facing threats due to habitat loss, unco-ordinated tourism and the effects of the climate crisis.
Our development funding will allow the team to shape plans ahead of a potential delivery grant of up to £8.06million. The project will be led by the Morecambe Bay Partnership charity, working with Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape Partnership, National Trust, RSPB and Lancashire Wildlife Trust in this development phase.
Together, they will:
- train volunteers in citizen science and ecology, including nature recovery training for young people to boost employability in the sector
- work with landowners, farmers and conservation organisations to enable more landscape-scale conservation efforts
- co-create a visitor management strategy

We’ll identify barriers to inclusive access to the National Landscape, develop training programmes in nature recovery and carry out ecological surveys and feasibility studies.”
