Preserving the heritage of St Mary's church through community engagement and capital building work.

St Mary’s Church undertook a partnership with the Goosnargh and Whittingham Heritage Group (GWHG) to establish a dedicated Community Hub in St. Mary's Church.

The funds awarded have contributed towards the capital costs of creating the Hub, a space where the community can come together.

The North Aisle of the church was developed to become a meeting room/workshop. This space provides a safe repository for archives, documents, photographs and memorabilia and also functions as a research room for individuals and groups. The adjacent open area displays showcase information about GWHG’s programmes and promote visitor access and engagement.

This new space enabled the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to realise its long-cherished goal of making the church more accessible and relevant as a community resource. This was important not only for existing residents and village clubs but also for families newly settled in the area who may be less aware of the local history and the church’s heritage.
