Funding was granted towards this integrated management and action programme for the South Pennine Moors Natural Area.
The project included biodiversity projects, species habitat management, countryside access management and woodland management. It was a strategic-based scheme, involving cooperation between local authorities, voluntary organisations and the local communities.
The South Pennines contain 15 sites of specific scientific interest (SSSIs) and two local nature reserves. It is located between the northern boundary of the Peak District National Park and the southern part of the Yorkshire Dales. Over seven million people live within one hour’s drive of the Standing Conference of South Pennine Authorities (SCOPSA) area. The area also attracts a large number of visitors.
