The 18th-century building has historically served as a key east-west route connecting the city with Westminster, however it needs urgent attention and major restoration works.
With our support, the project is restoring the building’s architecture, including its significant stonework and interior spaces to preserve the building. The garden is undergoing conservation works and redevelopment, turning the church’s grounds into an open and welcoming space for all to enjoy in the heart of the West End.
Once completed, a new step free public entrance will allow access for all to both the main building and the undercroft. The project is also transforming the crypt into a new undercroft community space with a kitchen and accessible toilets.
The three year activity plan is building strong partnerships with organisations such as Kings College London, The Courtauld and Somerset House, Westminster Lions youth project and the Adult Education Service. This includes engaging heritage activities such as research opportunities and outreach sessions for people of all backgrounds, ages and faiths to enjoy.
The project is also conducting a research project, uncovering three centuries of stories about the people who worshipped in its pews and are buried in its crypt as well as the church’s role in the community.
