The Grade I listed building was repaired and renovated, bringing it up to operational standards for audiences and artists.

The Arts Council England jointly-funded project was part of a 10-year series of interlinked building projects at the Royal Albert hall, originally built in 1871. It met with the responsibilities of the Hall as a performing venue and enhanced its reputation as a national monument.

Attention was given particularly to improving physical access, such as enabling wheelchair access to the balcony and arena, installing ramps at the North end of the building, improving visibility of signage and services for those with visual and hearing impairments.

The works significantly improved the functionality of the building, while also enhancing its character and amenity.
