A fascinating view of Bath’s Georgian history has been opened up thanks to the restoration of No 1, Royal Crescent.

The Grade I listed property, built in the 1760s, has been re-united with the adjacent Grade II listed building No. 1A which served as a service wing for the main house with kitchens and servants’ quarters.

The Bath Preservation Trust has been able to combine the restoration and conservation of the buildings with the creation of new and expanded exhibition spaces as well as a wide-ranging education programme that attracts children and adults to get involved in a range of hands-on activities.

In 2014 No.1, Royal Crescent won the Leisure and Tourism Business of the Year Award at the Bath Chronicle Business Awards.

Caroline Kay, Chief Executive of Bath Preservation Trust comments: “We re-opened a year ago after a £5m restoration and expansion project and it is testament to the dedication of the project team, staff, guides and volunteers that we were able to complete ahead of schedule and below budget. With a much improved visitor experience our customer satisfaction ratings have increased dramatically, our staff and volunteers are better trained and we estimate that in the first six months of opening we brought £300,000 income into the local economy.”
