The project is identifying and recording the stories of Arctic convoy veterans.

During the Second World War, Arctic convoys connected the UK, Iceland and North America with Russia in order to transport vital supplies. This was treacherous and these ‘suicide missions’ suffered high casualties.

The veterans, now in their late 80s and 90s will have their portraits and oral histories added to the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre archive. There was an online exhibition created by young people so that local people can learn about the heritage through the stories of those serving on the convoys.

A local youth theatre produced performances based on the untold stories of the veterans, reaching more people with the heritage of these fascinating and moving recollections.
