The Devon Record Office holds judicial, administrative and ecclesiastical records from 11th century to the 20th century.

This includes 700 collections that are considered to be of national, regional and local importance.

This project helped to construct a building within an existing, much larger building to house the entire collection, as the previous Records Office only held only 25% of the records while the remainder were kept in storage.

Plans included significantly improving public access to the collection, including full disabled access to the building; as well as providing public facilities including a public search room and lecture rooms. Plans also included improving storage of the records to national standards, to prevent deterioration and risk of damage.
