The Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Trust develops local history and outreach projects focusing on the contribution made to Manchester and British history by those from ethnic minority communities.

Ahmed Iqbal Ullah has two organisations set up in his name: a Memorial School in Bangladesh and the Race Relations Resource Centre in Manchester. This project provides an opportunity to explore the impact Ahmed’s death had on the local community as well as the positive initiatives that followed, through capturing oral histories and engagement with local archives.

Change and development in the South Manchester Bangladeshi community and the work of the Longsight-Sylhet Link group are also being explored. Ahmed’s mother and sister have been leading figures and the project has a special focus on the role of women within the community and the contribution of the Bangladeshi Women’s Organisation, Ananna.

The project will involve capturing oral histories, paper records and photographs, building towards several exhibitions and events across 2016, 30 years on from Ahmed’s death. This will include contributing to the Manchester Histories Festival.
