This project supported the transformation of HMS Caroline into a high-quality visitor attraction that tells the story of life on board the ship in times of war and peace.

HMS Caroline, the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland and of the First World War British Grand Fleet, had a 300-strong crew throughout its 100 years of service. The real-life stories of those crew have been used to create a unique visitor experience.

A visitor centre was established in the nearby 120-year-old Pump House, which provides a space for special exhibitions. It links the heritage of HMS Caroline with the surrounding maritime environment of Belfast’s Alexandra Dock and Thompson Dock.

Visitors exploring HMS Caroline can now find out about each of the different periods of its history, examine more than 450 original objects, and discover the role the people of Northern Ireland played in the First and Second World Wars.
