The Glens of Antrim have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and form a unique part of Northern Ireland’s countryside. This project involves a range of separate strands, addressing themes such as the conservation of the area’s heritage, and boosting access to the site and learning opportunities for visitors.
In terms of the conservation of the area, work involves improvements to upland management planning and biodiversity enhancement programmes.
Other projects within the scheme cover activities such as:
- Arranging heritage festivals and events
- Establishing of heritage trails
- Creating a catalogue of cultural traditions in stories and music
This project will therefore not only lead to the physical maintenance of the AONB, but will also ensure its sustainability through involving the local community and raising awareness of the area's importance.
