Emily Inspires! pays tribute to the legacy of Emily Wilding Davison, who was buried at Morpeth after falling under the hooves of the King's horse at the Epsom Derby in June 1913 - a moment that changed history.

Her life was deeply rooted in Northumberland, living there with her mother after her father’s death and returning to recover from her time in prison. A poet, musician, writer and speaker, Emily has continued to inspire throughout the last century.

A programme of schools workshops, writing competitions and exhibitions peaked with the centennial weekend, where a major procession followed the route of Emily’s last journey from the railway station to St Mary’s Church where she was finally laid to rest.

The project made accessible her story, beliefs and legacy with an audience of all ages and abilities across Northumberland. It was the culmination of over a decade’s work carried out by the Emily Wilding Davison Working Group.
