Celebrating the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta, this project delivered a programme of activities and events with the local community.

The Egham Museum held a series of interlinking events, programmes and activities to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta in 2015.

"Stunning exhibition, so much information, so well presented. We will come back."

The Museum asked local schools and community groups to create content inspired by the Magna Carta, which was then displayed at a final exhibition. Over 160 volunteers were recruited to achieve this.

Through consultations with local schools, the museum decided to focus on digital learning resources. The 35 online learning resources, relating to key stages 1-5 of the National Curriculum were produced by student volunteers. They included newly commissioned songs, interviews, board games and animated videos, and are available on the Museum website.

The Museum forged new partnerships with other local institutions: law students debated a Magna Carta inspired case at Supreme Court, and Heathrow Airport sponsored an internship position and the commission of a graphic novel. The project suceeeded in raising the profile of the museum both within the local community and with national organisations.
