This project focused on refurbishing the Durham Light Infantry Museum building and renewing its displays.

These developments were designed to improve public access and interpretation of the museum’s collections, and widen the public’s understanding of this important aspect of the region’s history.

The museum has an important military collection of objects that date from 1758, when the Durham Light Infantry regiment was first raised. This includes badges, equipment, medals, photographs, uniform and weapons.

This project included refurbishing part of the 1960s museum building and creating a new visitor entrance and reception area. Plans also included new permanent displays, designed to create an additional emphasis on the effect of regiment and war-time on the lives of those living in Durham.
