Half of Cumbernauld is made up of parks, gardens and woods but community participation in these spaces was quite low. The project aimed to highlight Cumbernauld’s green spaces through events and artwork based on local green spaces.

Over 70 people participated in workshops in green spaces exploring what local natural heritage means to them and how it could be maintained.

The project commissioned three young Scottish artists to create large pieces of art, using local people’s contributions as inspiration. These were displayed in Cumbernauld Shopping Centre which allowed the whole community to engage in the project.

A project fun day was also held at the shopping centre and members of the community got involved in a range of activities, including a Living Windows treasure hunt. Attendees were entertained by a live falconry display and a local band which features a dancing squirrel.
