This project captured the memories of Pakistani residents of Burnley, highlighting their contribution to the town’s culture and development between 1960 and 2010.

The project recruited undergraduate students and community volunteers to take part in oral history and interview training with the North West Sound Archive team. This group then worked as a team to collect information from first- and second-generation Pakistani residents who had contributed to social cohesion in the area, breaking down barriers to promote integration.

Following on from the interviews, the project successfully produced a book and video exploring this area of local heritage. Additionally a mobile exhibition and resource packs were created to share these local histories with the wider public.

The Jinnah Development Trust’s main purpose is to advance the education of the inhabitants of inner areas of multiracial towns, in particular within the boroughs of Burnley and Pendle.
