National Lottery Heritage Grants £10,000 to £250,000
Belfast's docklands have always been a place where people, goods and ideas meet and have been home to people from Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, India, China and across the world. Dockside Stories, created by ArtsEkta, will engage people connected to the Sailortown, Little Italy and the Half Bap neighbourhoods and share their rich heritage across the city.
The project will:
- collect oral histories and personal archives from dockside communities
- train local people in oral history and digital archiving
- create new high-quality artistic works inspired by dockside heritage
- deliver exhibitions, performances and events
Nisha Tandon OBE, ArtsEkta Founder and CEO, said: “By working with communities to tell their stories through art, music and memory, we’re not only preserving heritage – we’re strengthening the connections between people and celebrating the shared humanity that defines Belfast.”
The project is partnering with Sailortown Regeneration, Quarto Collective, Queen's University Belfast, Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, Maritime Belfast Trust and Belfast City Council.
