A group of 10 individuals from Doncaster Pride and their youth group, Masquerade, were trained in oral history and film techniques. Interviews with members of the LGBT+ community revealed the breadth of experiences of what it was and is like to be gay in Doncaster.

2017 was the biggest Pride in Doncaster’s history and provided a great launch pad for the first screening of the film, Doncaster 50. Pride and the screening received positive local press coverage including the BBC and ITV.

The project brought local business, police and communities’ together and promoted understanding. Doncaster Pride was awarded the Most Innovative Charity award at the Yorkshire and the Humber Enterprise Awards 2017.

Relationships with the Museum have been strengthened providing a longer legacy of the project with the film acting as a social archive which had not previously existed, and a joint exhibition was developed for World Aids Day 2018.
