Catalyst: Small Grants

Cowden and Hever
Sevenoaks
Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry Museum Trust
£10000

This volunteer-led museum explores the history of the Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry, from its conception in 1794 until modern times.

Due to restraints of their previous location, they were given the opportunity to receive new premises if they were able to fund the new fitout. Thanks to a National Lottery grant, they were able to rise to the challenge.

The grant funded training to diversify the team’s skillset and improve their fund raising knowledge to create a lasting difference for the museum. They received mentoring from an experienced consultant, set up new online donation systems, created a friends group and started to run outreach programs.

Overall the group showed how dedication to learning new skills and listening to advice can help turn around an organisation to create a brighter future. Their fundraising target was met swiftly and they were able to use funds from their grant to enhance their volunteer recruitment project, which will ensure the future of the museum.

From an initial small grant, they were able to successfully apply for a larger grant to continue their museum improvements.
