Providing a rare insight into the history of British aviation at Filton, the Bristol Aerospace Centre project tells the story of one of the birthplaces of aviation in Britain.

The aim of the project is to help preserve the 10 acres of Filton Airfield, along with two listed hangars dating back to the First World War.

It will reunite a site of world significance with a number of important collections, providing a unique insight into the aerospace industry at Filton, one of the birthplaces of British aviation, which continues to thrive today.

The projects will provide a great opportunity for learning, skills sharing and development, training and volunteering for the local community.

Within the collection at Filton Airfield is Concorde 216, Bloodhound and Rapier missiles, and a full size Bristol Scout along with many other significant objects.

The collections tell the stories of the history of aviation and worldwide events throughout the 20th century. For example, Filton’s key role during the Second World War – demonstrated through evocative film and design drawings as well as important exhibits such as the Bristol Blenheim, which by late 1939 represented 39% of all frontline RAF aircraft.
