Cynthia Wainwright
Role
Committee Member for Yorkshire and the Humber
Cynthia Wainwright has worked as a development and marketing professional for over 20 years, after relocating to the UK from California.

With an expertise in fundraising and relationship building for arts and cultural organisations, she has worked for leading institutions including Tate and the British Library.

As the former Head of Development at the Hepworth Wakefield, Cynthia was part of the founding senior management team responsible for the gallery’s opening in 2011. There, she spear-headed the fundraising campaign to complete the gallery building and secured substantial funding for its learning, outreach, exhibition and collections programmes. During seven years at Tate, she worked on a range of fundraising campaigns including the capital campaigns for Tate Britain’s renovation and Tate Modern’s extension. As a consultant, Cynthia now supports and enables innovative cultural and education projects around the country, spanning the visual arts, festivals, historic houses and music.

Cynthia first came to Yorkshire as a visiting student at the University of York reading literature, and returned later to study for a Master’s degree in women’s studies.  She has lived in Yorkshire with her family for the past seven years, and in her spare time enjoys visiting the region’s many parks, gardens, galleries and museums.
