Your London borough is turning 50 – time to celebrate!
In 1965, our capital was divided into 12 inner boroughs and 20 outer boroughs – each with their own local councils - as a result of the London Government Act 1963.
Today, each borough has its own unique identity, fascinating stories, favourite attractions and even some famous faces – but what happened over the past five decades to make them what they are today?
We’re offering grants of up to £100,000 to projects to help find out.
Why not…
- Share the memories of your community?
- Go behind the scenes at a local landmark?
- Explore the origins of cultural traditions?
- Tell the story of a community or organisation which has transformed local life?
- Explore the truths and myths of stories through the decades?
Two boroughs are leading the way with brilliant projects already awarded funding. Barking and Dagenham is opening a treasure trove of photographs taken through the lens of a local photographer, while Richmond’s democratic past will form the basis of a touring exhibition.
