Heritage Lottery Fund photo competition 2012 terms and conditions, including how to enter:
- The competition is free to enter, and open to photographers of all abilities. By participating in this competition you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
- The photograph(s) must not feature anyone who was not aware that you were photographing them or who has not agreed that you may use the photograph(s) in any way. For these purposes, people will not be deemed to be ‘featured’ if they cannot be identified from the photograph(s) or if their inclusion is secondary to the main subject matter of the photograph(s).
- Where the photograph(s) feature persons aged 16 years old or younger, the consent of that person’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must be obtained prior to entering the photograph(s) in the competition.
- Ownership of the copyright in the photograph(s) shall remain with you but by entering this competition you accept that HLF may use images submitted through the competition free of charge or any additional permission in any media for publicity or other purposes.
- The photograph(s) must have been taken by you alone.
- You must not have assigned the copyright in the photograph(s) to anyone else or licensed anyone else to use the photograph(s).
- You must also accept that in using your photograph(s) it/they may need to be cropped and you waive any right that you have to object to such treatment of the photograph(s) even if you deem it to be derogatory.
- The images must be from, or relate directly to, an HLF-supported project.
- In your entry, you must tell us the name of the project or heritage site. Your entry must also include your name, phone number, postal address and email contact. Any digital manipulation of photographs must also be clearly stated (beyond moderate re-sizing). Original shots will be prioritised above heavily manipulated images.
- All photos must be legally obtained, with permission if appropriate.
- All images must be submitted as high resolution digital files, preferably as jpg files.
- We would encourage large files to be posted on memory stick or CD to our office: HLF Scotland Photographic Competition, 38 Thistle St, Edinburgh EH2 1EN.
- If you are emailing entries, each email must be kept under 10MB maximum. Emailed entries should be sent to scotland@hlf.org.uk with ‘HLF Scotland photographic competition’ as a subject line.
- All entries are sent at the photographer's risk and HLF cannot accept liability for damage or loss. Sorry, entries will not be returned.
- All entries must be received by HLF either by email to scotland@hlf.org.uk or at the offices in 38 Thistle St, Edinburgh, EH2 1EN by 5pm on Friday 2 November 2012. Any entries after this time will not be considered.

- Winning entries will be notified by Friday 30 November 2012.
- HLF reserves the rights to cancel this competition or alter the rules as necessary.
- The prize of a wildlife photography course will be through a provider agreed by HLF, at a time agreed by the training provider and the selected winner. It must be used by 31 December 2013.
