We're pleased to announce that the HLF website has been awarded full accessibility accreditation by the Shaw Trust. We've also achieved AA status against the international technical standard for web accessibility – W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Each year our website is tested by Shaw Trust to ensure that the exemplar level of accessibility that it has achieved is being maintained. We also apply accessibility checks to all content published on the website.

What is web accessibility?

The goal of web accessibility is to help all people use the web. As a public body, we work hard to ensure our web services are accessible. We aim to meet the highest standards of accessibility, and always aspire to go further.

How is web accessibility tested?

Any website carrying Shaw Trust accreditation marks has been tested by people with a wide range of disabilities and found to be accessible. The accreditation process is rigorous: over 60 hours of testing by disabled web users goes into each accreditation. During the testing of our website, a strict technical assessment was also carried out by web auditors, in collaboration with HLF staff, to assess the site.

What does this mean for you?

Our AA accessibility accreditation means that you should have confidence that you will be able to use our website and expect a good experience when using it.

We consider our website an important tool in supporting potential and existing grantees. We also use it to show how National Lottery players’ money is being used to help heritage good causes. Maintaining web accessibility means that more people will now be able to access this information.
