Why join an HLF Committee?
Being a committee member presents an exciting and challenging opportunity for individuals with a strong commitment to our diverse heritage. Committee Chairs who will be standing down in March 2014 have said:
"As Chairman of the Committee for London since 2007 I’ve had the immense privilege of witnessing, advocating and helping to enable wonderful transformations and regenerations of landscapes, historic buildings, museums, galleries, public places, neighbourhoods, wildlife, plants. At HLF I have learnt from and seen so much of the wonderful evolving immensity of London – It’s numberless stories, myriad communities and historic environment from city to suburbia."
Wesley Kerr (2007-2014)
"As I survey the great sweep and diversity of the region’s historic places, museums, archives, landscapes and biodiversity, I’m tempted to imagine that the HLF never existed and to realise what a poorer place the East Midlands would be if that were so. I have had the chance to meet so many people and organisations, large and tiny, throughout the region to encourage ambition and to celebrate success."
Christopher Pennell (2006-2014)
The work of our Committees
Our committees take decisions on all grant funding requests from £100,000 up to £2million and provide a crucial local perspective to the HLF Board on larger grants and for targeted initiatives. Members meet people involved in heritage projects, represent HLF at openings and events and act as advocates for HLF in their locality.
