A woodland near Bethesda in the Ogwen Valley has been transformed into an outdoor space for everyone.

The funding was used to improve footpaths and add benches and information boards. By enabling access to more people to make the most of the woodland, this project hoped to reach people who don’t currently go out into nature.

The boundary wall was also improved and work was be carried out on parts of Parc y Moch’s wetland area to boost the woodland’s biodiversity.

The site entrance has been made more welcoming by adding a new wooden gate and installing a bike rack to encourage cycling.

There have been community activities happening at the site since 2021. The project built on this success by holding new regular volunteering days, training and events.

Harri Pickering, Parc y Moch Community Investment Company, said the grant allowed them to improve "access to the woodlands and the general infrastructure, which means that we can continue to develop parts of Parc y Moch as a space for the community to use and enjoy.

"Running community events and skill swap activities will really help to bring people into the space so they can get to know it. This is another big step towards getting the local community to reconnect with nature.”

The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) is part of the Welsh Government’s National Forest for Wales programme.
