The Midlands and East of England is steeped in rich heritage. The region is home to vibrant cities and cultural hubs, picturesque countryside and iconic waterways. Its varied history ranges from the birthplace of William Shakespeare to the industrial Black Country.

The building is wheelchair accessible. There is step-free access via the main entrance on Snow Hill Queensway. There are lifts to all floors, including a platform lift from the ground floor to reception on the first floor. Lifts have a voice announcer and there is a hearing enhancement loop at reception. Accessible toilets are available.

Welney Wildfowl & Wetlands Reserve visitor facilities
The wildfowl reserve at Welney was set up in 1969, and is one of two sites managed by Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) that is purely devoted to wild birds.

The graves at Welford Road Cemetery, the third oldest cemetery in the country, have been conserved and better interpreted for new visitors.

Volunteers researched the history of the Bedford College of Physical Training and developed a film using archival material and interviews with former students.

From Russia with Love was a learning programme about the Walpole Collection of masterpiece paintings at Houghton Hall, based on the highly successful exhibition, Houghton Revisited.

The ancient woodland of Frithy Wood was in decline as a natural habitat until the Green Light Trust received a grant to purchase and restore it to its original condition.

The Staffordshire Hoard Gallery
Public interest in the Staffordshire Hoard has been unprecedented. A temporary display at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery attracted more than half a million visitors in 12 months.
