You can apply for a grant of £250,000 and £5million if you are a:

  • not-for-profit organisation
  • partnerships led by not-for-profit organisations

How to apply

  3. Decide when to apply

    For grants between £250,000 and £5m, application deadlines are set in advance to clarify when funding decisions will be made.

    If you are invited to submit a development phase application, please submit it through our online application portal by:

    • 28 May 2019 to receive a decision by the end of September 2019
    • 20 August 2019 to receive a decision by the end of November 2019
    • 19 November 2019 to receive a decision by the end of March 2020

    Please make sure that the start date of your project is a date later than the date of the decision.

  4. Plan your financial contribution

    You must contribute at least 5% of your project costs for grants up to £1m and at least 10% for grants of £1m or more.

  5. Read about heritage enterprise

    Some heritage projects seek to achieve economic growth by investing in heritage. We call these ‘heritage enterprise’ projects.

  6. Submit an expression of interest (EOI)

    We ask all applicants for a grant above £250,000 to complete a short Expression of Interest (EOI) form.

    We will use the information you provide to decide whether or not to invite you to submit a development phase application.

    We aim to respond to your EOI within 20 working days of receipt.

    If we decide to invite you to apply, we will contact you to discuss next steps. If we are not inviting you to apply we will explain our reason.

  7. Apply for a grant

    If you have been invited to submit an application, we will assess your application within 12 weeks of you submitting it. After we have assessed your project, it will be assigned to a quarterly committee meeting for a formal decision.
