Role
Future Heritage Leader for Scotland
Sophie is an archive assistant at the Highland Archive Centre with a deep interest in preserving and facilitating access to Highland heritage.

Based in Easter Ross in the Scottish Highlands, Sophie has cherished being immersed in Highland culture, fostering a reverent respect for Gàidhlig, Highland folklore and its material culture. Her heritage inspired her studies at the University of St Andrews, the University of Edinburgh and most recently, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. There, she has consistently focused on continuity and the re-interpretation of the material culture in the Scottish Highlands, motivating her to centre it within her career.

Having gained work experience with the Ross and Cromarty Heritage Society, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, the Scottish Council on Archives and the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries, Sophie is dedicated to her professional development. However, as a young person in the Highlands, she is also committed to developing her local heritage sector, eager to see opportunities for other young professionals flourish. Being a Future Heritage Leader will provide an opportunity to enhance her skills in heritage governance and continue advocating for her local heritage sector.
