He has a passion for conservation-based regeneration, and at a national level launched the concept of Heritage Action Zones to promote place-based heritage regeneration.

As the South West Regional Director for Historic England (2007-2018), Andrew led numerous high profile schemes. These included Stonehenge A303, Bath and Cornwall World Heritage Sites, regeneration in Bristol and Gloucester and modernisation of the Great Western Railway.

Andrew developed key regional relationships in and outside the heritage sector with National Trust, Department for Transport, Network Rail and local authorities. He chaired the South West Historic Environment Forum for over a decade, as well as the Avebury World Heritage Site Partnership Panel, and membership of the former Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company and Design Review Panel.

In a 35-year career working for English Heritage and local government, his experience has concentrated on conservation and planning work in diverse areas, such as Wiltshire, inner-city West Yorkshire and rural Lancashire. He has ran grant aid schemes ranging from individual buildings in need and small market towns, to challenging urban environments with significant deprivation.

More recently, Andrew has taken a break from his career to concentrate on family life. He lives near Bath.
