Townscape Heritage Initiative evaluation

Townscape Heritage Initiative evaluation

The evaluation of the THI programme has been running since 1998, one year after the programme was set up. It covers 17 case studies, across a wide mix of towns and cities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. After initial baseline work, schemes were reviewed after five years, and then again after ten years.

Both the five- and ten-year reports for this study are now available. They look at changes to the quality of the townscape and perceptions of local people through a household survey, and at the economic impacts of building re-use.

We have also commissioned a further piece of work to evaluate the ongoing progress of the Townscape Heritage Initiative programme. This involves a case-study review of 25 more recent THI schemes that have reached completion.
