Sported Foundation have been awarded a £24,861 National Lottery grant to explore the history of sport and how it plays a part in Northern Ireland's identity.

“This project will help people discover the contribution of community sport to Northern Ireland’s history, and highlight the role it continues to play in connecting local communities.”

Judith Rankin, National Manager, Northern Ireland, Sported.

Sported is a charity that empowers community groups through grassroot sport and physical activity. They will work with over 160+ individuals connected with local sport to gather their perspectives on how it has shaped local communities across Northern Ireland. Stakeholders will include:

  • clubs and their participants
  • sports coaches
  • governing bodies

Through desk research and a series of focus groups and events, they plan to produce a report comprising oral, video and written stories, which capture Northern Ireland’s diverse sporting heritage. This includes engagement with online audiences through polls, surveys and social media.
