The Pepperpot was built in the grounds of Akay House in the early 19th century, on land now owned by the school. The focus of the project was to bring the site back into use, making it accessible to the local community.

This project funded extensive repairs to the Pepperpot, which was originally built to quarantine local landowner Charles Taylor’s daughter, who suffered from tuberculosis. It also provided an opportunity for the school’s pupils to learn about local heritage.

The building was fully restored and fitted with interpretation panels and educational resources were sent out to local schools to engage them with the heritage of the site. Secondary school pupils have made use of the building to stargaze with a telescope on the second floor. Additionally the group produced a website about Akay House and the story of the Pepperpot.
