National Lottery Grants for Heritage – £250,000 to £5million
The 200-year-old building is an important meeting place in Llanystumdwy and was bought by Menter y Plu in August 2019 after a local fundraising campaign.
The village is the birthplace of David Lloyd George and visitors to the nearby Lloyd George Museum provide a valuable economic boost when they visit Y Plu.
Our development funding will allow Menter y Plu to develop detailed plans for their project, to then be able to apply for further funding to:
- restore the original structure of the 200-year-old pub
- demolish the building’s modern and unsuitable extensions
- build a new space the community can use for events to bring people together to celebrate local heritage and promote the Welsh language
Peredur Jones from Menter y Plu said: “Menter y Plu’s vision is to foster the Y Plu pub as a vibrant centre that protects Welsh culture and adds to the social and economic wellbeing of Llanystumdwy and the wider area.
"Our goal is to make Llanystumdwy a nicer place to live, work and visit together and improve the wellbeing of the community, through steps such as improving the link between Y Plu and the local trail network and Criccieth allotments. The funding we have received from The National Lottery Heritage Fund has been a great boost to help us develop our plans.”
