When at the Ministry of Defence, Niall advised on historic buildings, archaeology, landscapes and World Heritage Sites in the UK and overseas. He currently runs a historic environment planning consultancy from the heart of the Durham Dales.
Niall is a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and the National Trust's Historic Environment Advisory Group and Design Advisory Forum. As Vice-Chair of the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, he is looking forward to exciting developments in the lead up to its bicentenary in 2025.
He is also a former president of the Architectural and Archaeological Society of Durham and Northumberland, chair of the Council for British Archaeology regional group and member of the Association of County Archaeologists.
