Niall Hammond is the former County Archaeologist for Durham and the Senior Historic Buildings Advisor for the Ministry of Defence where he advised on historic buildings, archaeology, landscapes and World Heritage Sites in the UK and overseas.

He currently runs a historic environment planning consultancy from the heart of the Durham Dales.

Niall is a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, a member of the National Trust's Historic Environment Advisory Group and Design Advisory Forum, Vice-Chair of the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway looking forward to exciting developments in the lead up to its bicentenary in 2025.  

He is also a former president of the Architectural and Archaeological Society of Durham and Northumberland, chair of the Council for British Archaeology regional group and member of the Association of County Archaeologists.
