Pearson Park first opened in 1861. The land was donated by former Mayor of Hull Zachariah Pearson (1821–1891) to support local people’s health.

It continues to support the community 150 years later, and has gone from strength to strength following a Parks for People grant in 2017. The park’s historic features have been restored, new community buildings have been created and its nature has been boosted.

The park is ideal for hosting project activities that enhance wellbeing for a wide range of people. These include nature walks and heritage trails, children’s sport sessions, family crafts, litter picking and bulb planting.  

Activities continued throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In a 2020 visitor survey, 92% of people agreed the park enhanced their quality of life.

Jane Winter, Pearson Park Community Health and Engagement Ranger, said: “Pearson Park has always been popular but the improvements made during the restoration project have attracted so many more visitors.

It’s been referred to as an ‘oasis’ and a ‘life-line’ by many.

Funding comes from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund. The project is due to complete in August 2023. Follow them on Facebook.
