Our Our Day Out encouraged people to explore the Keith Medley photographic archive based at Liverpool John Moores University.

The project was developed to showcase and explore the work of local photographer Keith Medley. A selection of Medley’s archive, which the University houses, depicts scenes captured around the seaside resort of New Brighton during the 1960s. Following the end of the Second World War, New Brighton was promoted as a destination for day trippers and promoted an understanding of clean, fresh air and natural environments complemented by modern facilities such as piers, promenades, fairgrounds, ballrooms and lidos.

Selected photographs were used to rekindle memories of people who had lived in New Brighton or visited the area, and the collated reminiscences provided context for an exhibition and online representation of the images.

The project produced a number of postcards of the area which included QR codes so that people could digitally access the stories behind the images. The interviews were incorporated into a short documentary exploring the theme of a family day out.
